CONGRATULATIONS, MARTIJN!!!

Congratulations to my friend Martijn Koomen, selected with his Window Vase  for European Glass Experience, an international celebration of contemporary glass art and its makers! It aims to link practices in this medium to contemporary art and to foster the role of glass artisanry as an intangible cultural heritage to be safeguarded and promoted.
Coordinated by the City of Venice in collaboration with Consorzio Promovetro Murano and the Museo del Vetro (Murano Glass Museum), EGE was launched as an international competition in 2013, co-financed by the Culture Program of the European Union, and open to young Europeans under forty. Artists applied by presenting a work they created during the last two years and made with any glass technique and manufacture, or also presenting a project (sketch or drawing).
The winning projects – about 80 works and sketches (some of which will be realized by master craftsmen associated with Consorzio Promovetro Murano) have been selected by the panel of museum directors, curators, and glass experts, under the scientific directorship of Cornelia Lauf, and will be part of the itinerary exhibition European Glass Experience that will involve, in addition to Italy, a number of countries such as Finland, Spain, and later Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
The selected works reveal a rising generation of young glass artists at the forefront of their field, representing wide-ranging schools of thought and cultural ancestries, coming not only from Europe, but also from Argentina, Japan, Israel, the United States, and Turkey.
The first exhibition will open on March 28, 2014 at the Finnish Museum of Glass in Riihimaki (Finland), curated by Uta Laurén.

CONGRATULAZIONI, MARTIJN!!!
